Sliding Scale Tuition*
We have high ideals, like providing fantastic, outdoor, and loving education along with low student/teacher ratios and affordable tuition. After operating Garden Song for four years, we have found that, despite most of the operating expenses going to pay teachers and substitutes, Garden Song has not brought in enough income to provide adequate compensation for its teachers. For example, the gross income for 2023/2024 was $53,193, and of that, $43,230 went to the two teachers. At present, Garden Song is a labor of love but we are working towards making it more financially sustainable. We ask that you consider these numbers when you make your financial commitment.
Garden Song is independent and self-supporting, so all of the contributions go toward making this a viable initiative in Corvallis and supporting the teachers. Please use this sliding scale to honestly explore your circumstances and commit to contributing the highest amount you are able to offer.
Consider contributing the full amount if you have access to financial security: If you own property, have savings, have investments, have retirement accounts, inheritance, are able to travel recreationally without creating financial strain, have access to family money and resources, work part time by choice, or choose not to work. And if you have the means, and would like to support another child’s education, we would encourage you to do so, as that heartfelt gift could make a world of difference to a family that otherwise could not even consider joining.
Consider contributing somewhere in the middle if imagining paying the full amount deters you from enrolling, but you know you are not in need of a significant reduction in cost. You fall in this category if you have access to steady income and are not struggling to make all your regular payments each month. Perhaps you have some family or other means of support that you are able to access.
Consider contributing near the lowest suggested amount if your circumstances would prevent you from contributing the full amount due to financial hardship. If you struggle to meet some of your basic needs such as food, shelter, medical care, or childcare, you very likely belong on this end of the contribution scale.
*If the lowest suggested amount still feels out of reach, please contact me anyway and we will work to find other solutions.
